Accountants may like to know that Sage, the accounting software giant, has just launched Sage 50 Accounts 2012 which comes with a smartphone application so that users can enter data from their Blackberry and iPhone devices.
Geoff Philips, the product manager for Sage connected services, explained that the majority of the enhancements to the new version were implemented after market research and consumer demand. Between 30% and 40% of customers said they wanted to be able to access data remotely via mobile devices.
The mobile application is free but it needs to be tied to a desktop Sage 50 Accounts host which could deter small business owners who don’t use desktop accounts packages. The Plus and Professional versions of the app have additional functionalities and allow online accountants to access multiple user accounts.
Meanwhile, contractor accountants could be set to benefit from more opportunities after the REC’s latest Report on Jobs showed that there was an increased demand for temporary workers in July.
The report also showed that hourly rates for temps are also increasing which may mean that employers are starting to realise the advantages of the flexible working model.
Kevin Green, the chief executive of the REC, pointed out that despite the weak UK economy, the jobs market continues to perform well. Businesses are using a large amount of temporary workers which demonstrates they continue to see the flexible workforce as valuable.
